Functional Medicine Testing

What is Functional Medicine?

Many of us can agree that the current healthcare model and general standard of care is in shambles. The system is designed to fail, and at some point, we believe it will. If I ask 100 people what their most important personal asset is, 98% of them will say their health. We have a system that is designed around symptoms and drugs, not on health or finding the cause of the issue. That is what functional medicine does—finds the cause and addresses it. The potential combinations of what made you sick are endless.  Everything from mold and underlying viruses and bacteria to heavy metals and mercury fillings could be the culprit. But once the cause is identified, the healing can begin.

Why Is Functional Medicine Different?

We believe the body wants to innately heal. We also believe the individual is responsible for his or her own health. One of our passions here at Sugar Hill Spine and Wellness is to educate. We feel an empowered patient is a healthier patient.  Every single person has a unique problem causing their health issue.

Unfortunately, the current model of healthcare fails most patients suffering from chronic disease, pain, and illness because it does not address the underlying causes, nor does it teach the tools needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle once the initial crisis is averted.

Functional Medicine Is Different

By contrast to the traditional model, functional medicine treats the patient as a whole rather than a set of symptoms. This patient-centered model for holistic medicine creates a partnership between the patient and the physician. By listening to the patient and learning his or her story, the physician can create personalized therapeutic strategies.
